Despite record high unemployment, foreclosures, and budget deficits, one business continues to flourish: Payday Loans.

Their secret?  Small loans to working class people at an average of 455% interest. Their other secret?  Financial backing from major banks like Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and JP Morgan Chase.

Banks provide over $1.5 billion in credit that funds an estimated $15 billion in payday and cash advance loans. In America today there are nearly as many payday lending outlets as there are McDonald’s and Starbucks combined.

Payday loans wouldn't exist without the financial backing of the big banks, as revealed in our report, The Predators' Creditors.

Payday lenders prey on people in need, exploit lower and middle class America, and drain wealth from our communities.

We need the big banks to immediately stop funding payday lenders and begin offering affordable small dollar loan programs in all communities. We will deliver this petition to each of the banks and their regulators demanding the banks immediately stop this unsafe, unsound and destructive practice.

Our message to big banks:

We are against usury and predatory lending.

Big banks must stop profiting from our communities' economic struggles and start being part of the solution.

We demand that Bank of America, JP Morgan Chase, Wells Fargo and other banks stop funding payday lenders, and begin helping families by offering affordable, small-dollar loans.
